The
drivers and conductors were the friendliest you could meet, they picked people
up from anywhere on route, in fact they even stopped outside our house nearly every
working morning, because we could never make it to the bus stop on time. To
think about it now not only did we put on the driver’s good nature but we didn’t
show much thought for the passengers because at times they would be waiting a
while. Now I know what our mum meant about it being embarrassing.

Elms in a row
I often admired the Elms in a row
outside the school in which
I did go.
Their leaves displayed a spectacular
show
throughout the autumn a long
time ago.
Sadly the Elms are no longer there
A cruel disease cut short
their flair
Still often I think of the Elms in a row
to this day over half a
century ago.
Our local Pubs
The Wagon & Horses took you to The Railway Inn passing the Rising Sun.
Because The Vine was no longer there The Red Lion was next on the run.
You could turn down
to The Royal Oak or head up to The Farmers Boy
The Gresley Arms by which you’d pass, has a service in scenery to enjoy.
